The former O'Malleys aquarium store in Whitebridge would be transformed into an eight-storey apartment complex under a marketing proposal for the site.
Newcastle real estate firm Movable is advertising the one-acre block in Bulls Garden Road with artist's impressions of an ambitious concrete structure housing 123 apartments with views to Redhead beach.
The site has a 10-metre height limit, or about three storeys, under the Lake Macquarie local environment plan and is zoned B(1) neighbourhood centre, a category which allows residential flat buildings.

The owners engaged Brisbane architects ARGO to design the concept plan, which does not have development approval from Lake Macquarie City Council.
Marketing for the site says the concept proposal includes a pool, gymnasium, movie screening area, roof-top recreation area and commercial spaces suitable for cafes and medical rooms.
The site was advertised for sale for $6 million in 2019.
