Apartment block plans opposite Royal Liverpool Hospital replaced by 278-bed hotel proposal

Plans for a 142-bed apartment block opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital have been replaced by proposals for a new 278-bed hotel.

Situated on the Aura site facing out onto Prescot Street, on the edge of the city's Knowledge Quarter, developer Elliot Group has decided to make huge changes to the scheme that already had planning permission.

The group has now submitted plans for the large hotel, and hopes the application will be determined by Liverpool City Council's planning authority by the end of November, BusinessLive reports.

It's all in response to what an Elliot Group spokesman described as a "continued demand for hotel accommodation in the city", with the designs carried out by Falconer Chester Hall's Liverpool studio.

Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group, which today released the first image of the proposed development, said: "Paddington Village and the new hospital are driving demand for accommodation in this part of the city so the moves makes absolute strategic sense."

According to the group, the Aura scheme is currently on site, with Liverpool-based contractor Vermont delivering more than 1,000 new student beds over two blocks.

The gross development value of the project will be £100m when complete, a spokesman said.

Zerum Consult is advising Elliot Group on the planning application.
