'Aouar!' - Arsenal fans sent into transfer frenzy after tracking flight from France

Arsenal supporters were sent into a brief transfer frenzy after tracking what they believed to be Houssem Aouar's flight from France to England.

It would appear that the Gunners' hopes of landing the Frenchman have all but ended following developments over the past 48 hours and leading up to transfer deadline day.

Last weekend the 22-year-old was the subject of a bid from the north London outfit which was rejected, but talks had been ongoing between the two clubs.

Transfer Deadline Day - deals from around the league so far

There was an expectation that Arsenal would return with an improved offer to get a deal over the line, but according to RMC Sport, Aouar emerged from a meeting with the Lyon hierarchy on Saturday and announced to his teammates that he would be staying put.

Furthermore, the playmaker opened up on his decision following a 1-1 draw with Marseille on Sunday evening.

"I felt that I could still bring things to this team and the club, the club that raised me, quite simply," he told reporters after scoring in the big Ligue 1 clash.

However, there was a theory that Lyon would perform a u-turn after it emerged Memphis Depay could join Barcelona despite the club reportedly announcing to French media that Aouar and the Dutchman would be staying at the club.

Perhaps thinking an agreement could still be reached for Aouar, Arsenal fan @AFCVEGAN sparked a meltdown by posting details of a flight from Lyon to London.

This prompted some supporters to get rather excited about the idea of Aouar joining.

With that said, any dreams were soon dashed as it was quickly noted that the flight was most likely for Joachim Andersen.

The 24-year-old is a teammate of Aouar at Lyon, and is being tipped to join Fulham on loan.
