Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez trolled Senator David Perdue over his controversial stock purchases ahead his Georgia run-off election next month.
Rep Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to attack the Republican politician after he offered to fly her down to the state to motivate his own base.
"@AOC, our offer still stands - come on down to Georgia, we'll buy your ticket!" tweeted Sen. Perdue, who previously invited Rep. Ocasio-Cortez to debate him on the Green New Deal.
The congresswoman replied by taking a shot at Perdue’s stock dealings, which were investigated by the Justice Department for possible insider trading.
"And what money are you going to buy that ticket with, Perdue? The curiously 'well-timed' stocks you've cashed in on while in office?" she tweeted.
Investigators probed Mr Perdue’s finances for insider trading after he sold more than $1 million worth of shares in Cardlytics, a financial company where he once sat on the board.
Mr Perdue made the transaction after getting an email from the CEO which referred to “upcoming changes” according to the New York Times.
The investigation was eventually closed without any charges being brought.
Democrats have used the stock trades to accuse the Georgia senator of making money from the coronavirus pandemic while most Americans have suffered economic hardship.
Sen Perdue is currently in a close race with Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff ahead of their 5 January run-off election.
