AOC Slams ICE After Shooting Of Minneapolis Woman: 'Murders In Cold Blood Need To Be Prosecuted'

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) slammed ICE after the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis, saying it has "now become what we feared most for a long time."

"This has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long time: that it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability. At the end of the day, what we saw today was a murder, and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted," AOC told press outside the Capitol.

Several Democrats have come out to slam the agency after the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, with some expressing willingness to force a government shutdown to enforce changes.

"We can't just keep authorizing money for these illegal killers. That's what they are, this rogue force," said Rep. Pramila Jayapal. Rep. Ro Khanna, on his end, said the agent who shot Good should be arrested. "And we should be opposing the hundreds of billions of dollars going to a lawless agency."

Some Republicans, however, are defending the actions of ICE. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said "our brave ICE agents put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities from dangerous criminals."

Moreover, border czar Tom Homan defended ICE agents in general on the same day of the shooting. Speaking to CBS News, Homan said he has not "seen ICE act out outside of policy." "If they are acting outside of policy, I'm not aware of it. There'll be an investigation. They'll be held accountable," he added.

After being shown images of the incident, Homan said he wouldn't comment on it due to there being an active investigation. "I'm not going to make a judgment call on one video when there's a hundred videos out there, I wasn't on the scene. I'm not an officer that may have body cam video," Homan said.

"It would be unprofessional to comment on what I think happened in that situation. Let the investigation play out and hold people accountable based on the investigation," he added.

DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin, on her end, said "an ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots." She added that the woman "weaponized her vehicle" and sought to "run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed the claim, saying he saw the video and "I want to tell everybody directly that is b---s---." Witnesses told NBC News that they saw the woman trying to flee officers when she was shot.
