Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) angrily hit back at a “creepy” Republican representative who tweeted an animated video depicting him killing her and attacking President Biden.
The lightning rod progressive called for Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) to be punished but predicted GOP leaders would do nothing about his hateful fantasy tweet.
“A creepy member I work with who fundraises for Neo-Nazi groups shared a fantasy video of him killing me,” AOC tweeted. “And he’ll face no consequences bc @GOPLeader cheers him on.”
Gosar used his government account to tweet the 70-second video depicting a heroic image of himself flying into the air and brandishing a sword against an animated image of an enemy with AOC’s head superimposed on it.
Gosar slashes the rival in the back of the neck and kills the character.
He also swings two swords at an image of Biden in the video that appears to be based on the Japanese anime series “Attack on Titan.”
Gosar, a far right-wing supporter of former President Trump, gleefully tweeted the video with the message: “Any anime fans out there?”
Twitter tagged Gosar’s for violating the site’s rules barring “hateful conduct” but allowed it to remain visible “because it may be in the public interest” for people to see it.
Several Democratic lawmakers quickly called for Gosar to be expelled or disciplined by the House.
A spokeswoman for Gosar called the controversy overblown and suggested the video amounts to a harmless joke.
“We made an anime video,” Jessica Lycos said. “Everyone needs to relax.”
GOP Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) did not immediately comment on the controversy.
