A weekly Reddit thread jam-packed with scathing comments about ANZ Bank and its CEO, Nuno Matos, has gone viral following the company’s massive restructure, where approximately 3,500 workers will lose their jobs in the next 12 months.
Earlier this week, ANZ announced that approximately 3,500 workers are set to lose their jobs by September under a massive restructure that “will reduce engagements with consultants and other third parties”.
“We know this will be difficult news for some of our staff,” Matos said alongside the announcement of the company’s restructure.
“While some of these changes have already commenced, we are committed to working through the impacts as quickly and safely as we can, with both care and respect for our teams affected.”

“We will continue to consult with our staff and engage with relevant unions as we progress our changes,” Matos added before adding that the changes will impact 1,000 managed contractors as the business reviews its engagements with consultants and other third parties.
ANZ Bank and Nuno Matos dragged on Reddit following massive restructure news
Ahead of the devastating news, it appears that ANZ staffers have been voicing their frustrations with the company, as well as Matos himself, on a weekly Reddit thread.
Per The Sydney Morning Herald, within the thread, Redditors have joked about Matos’ alleged chamomile tea addiction and his surveillance of employees at ANZ’s Docklands building, a claim the company has denied.

“There is no chamomile tea on L10. I suspect a certain connoisseur might be hoarding it,” one of the jokes read, per the publication.

Other Redditors revealed they were among the thousands whose jobs were being cut, expressing their concerns for staff being “left behind”.
“I’m getting the chop after 40 years — frontline role. I’m still doing my best as I work out my time,” one Redditor claimed.
“I feel for those left behind — most already work like hounds, and they’ll be asked to do more. I feel relieved to be bailing, but a bit guilty. It’s been a great company for most of my career — I am worried it’s about to be blown up. I hope Nuno is right and everyone else is wrong.”

However, one of the most scathing pieces of tea on the weekly thread included the bank’s viral apology email after it accidentally sent out a redundancy email to employees before they knew they were getting axed.
Honestly, with the anonymity that Reddit provides, it’s no surprise that devastated, frustrated workers have flocked to the online forum for some kind of solace.
At the time of writing, neither Matos nor ANZ Bank have publicly addressed what’s been said on Reddit following the business restructure.
