Gym franchise Anytime Fitness today revealed plans to open a string of sites by the end of 2021 as the sector rebounds post-restrictions.

The chain, which has more than 165 UK outlets including over 40 London clubs, plans to launch five of its 10 new 24/7 gyms in the capital. Branches are set to open in Hackney, Swiss Cottage, Chalk Farm, Peckham and West Ealing.

All sites will be independently owned by franchisees.

The chain said it has seen "record interest" from potential franchisees this year, with enquiries surging by 300% year-on-year.

The leisure sector has bounced back since being allowed to reopen in April, but firms are today facing surging staff and running costs.

Anytime Fitness boss Neil Randall warned in The Times last week that chains like his may be left with "no other option than to potentially increase prices" as a result.
