Anyone found faking a lateral flow Covid test result will get a £60 fine

Anyone who is found faking the result of their lateral flow test in Wales could receive a fixed penalty notice from Monday, it has been announced.

From 7am on Monday, an NHS Covid Pass will become compulsory for everyone attending:

  • Nightclubs and similar venues
  • Indoor non-seated events for more than 500 people
  • Outdoor non-seated events for more than 4,000 people
  • Any setting or event for more than 10,000 people

Anyone aged over 18 will need to have had two vaccinations or have done a lateral flow test within the last 48 hours to be able to download the NHS Covid pass.

People will be able to show their status via either the NHS Covid Pass, an official paper certificate or confirmation of a negative test by text or email. The NHS Covid app will show they have been fully vaccinated, had a negative test or recovered from Covid.

Part of the regulations which were passed in chaotic scenes in the Senedd make it an offence to fake a test result.

The result will be a £60 fixed penalty notice. It will reduce to £30 if paid within 14 days. However, if it isn't a first offence, then fine doubles.
