Ivy Pocket is a 12 year old Victorian maid, under the impression that everyone loves her eccentric manner, but in reality, people think her a bit of a pain.
After she is abandoned by her mistress in Paris with just £1, a life of poverty seems imminent until she is rushed to a dying Duchess, who promises Ivy £500 if she delivers the priceless Clock Diamond to Matilda Butterfield on her birthday. Ivy sets on her quest with determination but mysterious events seem to follow her and leave her wondering if the Clock Diamond is just a beautiful necklace as she thought. But more importantly, who is after it?
I love this book and I will definitely be reading the sequel, Somebody Stop Ivy Pocket. I adore Ivy Pocket, with her bizarre ways and witty phrases, because she is so matter of fact with everyone, which leads to hilarious consequences. There are twists and turns at every corner and all of the characters are unique and intriguing, most of all Ivy.
The plot was very carefully thought out and the author clearly has an amazing imagination because I have never read a story like it. I recommend this book to both boys and girls aged over 9 and I would rate it 4/5 stars. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read Somebody Stop Ivy Pocket.
