'Any human with a heart would not do that': Mum's fury as hit-and-run biker leaves cyclist son, 11, 'for dead'

A mother has slammed the hit-and-run motorcyclist who left her son 'for dead' after knocking him off his push-bike.

Theo Andrew, 11, was cycling near his home in Oldham when he was hit by a suspected stolen motorbike.

He was knocked unconscious and suffered a severely broken left leg, a fractured skull and swelling on the brain as well as cuts and bruises following the incident on Friday afternoon.

He remains at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital where doctors are concerned his leg injury - he broke his tibia and fibula - could be 'life-changing'.

His mother Siobhan Doyle, 31, said her son had swerved to avoid wasps swarming around the bins near his home on Higher Lime Road in Limeside, Oldham, when he was struck by a motorbike.

Witnesses have told police the motorcyclist came off his machine but, despite bleeding from his own injuries, picked up some debris, got back on and rode away.

Police launched a hunt and found the alleged rider in a local hospital.

Residents say the area is plagued by rogue bikers.

Mother-of-three Siobhan told the M.E.N: "I was in my bedroom and I heard this smash. I looked out of the window and could not see my son because he was knocked out behind a car. I just thought it was another d** head whose smashed his bike. Then I heard banging on my door and everyone is screaming 'it's your Theo'.

"I was shocked. I was being sick and I was screaming."

She described how she went outside and found her son unconscious although he later came round and told his mother 'where am I? My leg's snapped in half'.

Speaking from her son's hospital bedside, she added: "It's disgusting, for someone to see a child like that on the floor with two bones sticking out of his leg and then run off."

The biker had left her child 'for dead', said Siobhan, adding: "Any human with a heart would not do that."

She described how her son, who was due to go into year seven at Spring Brook Upper School, had autism and ADHD which had complicated his treatment while in hospital.

Theo was conscious and was 'doing quite well considering', said Siobhan, who had to cancel her infant son Hugo's first birthday part the day after the hit-and-run.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed officers were investigating a fail-to-stop collision on Higher Lime Road in Oldham on Friday August 23 which involved a suspected stolen motorbike.

The spokesman confirmed that although no arrest had been made a 19-year-old male would be summonsed to appear in court for failing to stop at the scene of a collision, having no licence and having no insurance.
