'Anxious' man frustrated after being moved into house with no lock on front door

An East Midlands housing association say they will be carrying out an investigation after a man moved into a home with no lock on his front door.

Kevin Richards, 57, moved into a house of multiple occupancy to find there were also no cleaning supplies in the communal areas and a smashed window at the back of the house.

He was not pleased when he moved into the home three weeks ago in Balmoral Road near Nottingham city centre.

The housing association, East Midland Homes Cooperative (EMHC), helps find homes for vulnerable people and disadvantaged families.

Mr Richards has said living in the house has made him feel "really anxious."

He said: "I just recently moved into supportive housing with the East Midlands Housing Cooperative.

"I was here for two weeks without a lock on the front door.

"I'm in a multiple occupancy premises now but I have just one room in a house with a shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.

"They're in the business of providing housing for vulnerable people.

"Anybody could just walk in without a lock on the door - it's dangerous."

Mr Richards only recently moved into the property but says he has not felt comfortable since he started living there.

He added: "It's the tenant's responsibility to keep the communal areas clean and I've been here for nearly a month but there's still no sweeping brush or dustpan and brush or any cleaning equipment to clean the place.

"When I first moved in the only thing that was clean was the bed. There was no curtains on the window and there's half a set of broken blinds.

"The floor was an absolute mess! It hadn't been hoovered or mopped at all.

"There's broken windows on the back door. There's no kettle and the microwave I went to use gave off a smell of burning plastic.

"This has all made me really anxious."

East Midlands Housing Cooperation refused to give a statement but said that they will be investigating the incident.
