Airlines across the U.S. are canceling hundreds of flights at major airports due to the ongoing government shutdown.
More than 800 flights within, into or out of the U.S. have been canceled for Friday, when air traffic cuts are due to begin, based on data shared by FlightAware.
It comes after Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced 40 of the country’s busiest airports would be reducing flight schedules by 10 percent.
A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration on Thursday to find enough money to fully fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, for November.
The ruling from the judge in Rhode Island comes after the administration said it would only partially fund SNAP using $4.6 billion in emergency funding for the month, leaving roughly half of the more than 41 million Americans enrolled in the food stamps program without benefits.
The ruling comes after President Donald Trump threatened to withhold SNAP funding if Democrats did not reopen the government – a threat the White House brushed off.
The Trump administration has appealed the judge’s ruling.

Wednesday 5 November 2025 22:20 , Rachel DobkinTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters the Supreme Court hearing Wednesday on President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs went “very well.”
The Court is weighing whether the Trump administration’s use of a 1977 emergency law to impose tariffs without Congressional approval is lawful.
“It went very well. I think the Solicitor General has made a very powerful case,” Bessent said.
When asked what the Trump administration would do if the Court rules against them, Bessent said, “We’re not going to discuss that now.”

Wednesday 5 November 2025 23:20 , Rachel DobkinPresident Donald Trump has boasted about bringing an unprecedented amount of foreign business into the U.S. after taking a blow on the domestic front.
After Democrats swept Tuesday’s elections, including the high-profile mayoral race in New York City and gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey, Trump and his administration have tried to refocus the good press on the president.
“We had an incredibly successful trip to Asia. No President has ever brought more business into the United States of America!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday evening.
According to the Trump administration, Japan has agreed to invest $550 billion and South Korea has agreed to invest $350 billion into the U.S.
Trump did not provide statistics in his post to back up his claim that his administration has brought in more investments than any other administration in U.S. history.
Steve Bannon sounds the alarm after Mamdani win - and warns Republicans will be defeated in 2026 if they’re not MAGA
Wednesday 5 November 2025 23:40 , Rachel DobkinFormer Trump strategist Steve Bannon is warning that democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral election should set off “alarm bells” and “flashing red lights” about the growing influence of the Democratic Party’s populist base.
“What this kid got was 5,000 people canvassing in Brooklyn by going door-to-door, the Working Families Party and the DSA [Democratic Socialists of America],” Bannon told Politico. “People should understand they’re the rising power organizationally.”
Mamdani, whose views on issues from freezing rent to the Israel-Hamas war are considerably to the left of those of party leaders, was able to deliver a coalition of voters Democrats have struggled to retain in recent elections.
He carried precincts with younger voters and districts with predominantly people of color, according to voting data.

Mamdani had called the NYPD “racist” in the past, which he has apologized for.
He explained on Fox News in October that after George Floyd, a Black man, was killed by a white cop in Minneapolis in 2020, “It felt like safety and justice had never been further apart.”
“Now, what I know, having represented a hundred thousand people in Western Queens. Is that to deliver that justice, you have to also deliver that safety,” Mamdani said. “And that means representing the men and women in the NYPD, it means representing the Black and brown New Yorkers who've been victims of police brutality.”

Trump bashes Mamdani's victory speech and said he should be 'very nice to me'
Thursday 6 November 2025 02:00 , Rachel DobkinPresident Donald Trump has bashed New York City’s incoming mayor, Zohran Mamdani, for his victory speech and said he should be “very nice to me” to get federal approval on projects, per the Associated Press.
After winning the election Tuesday night, Mamdani said in a fiery speech, “If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him. And if there is any way to terrify a despot, it is by dismantling the very conditions that allowed him to accumulate power.”
“So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up,” Mamdani said.
Trump called the speech “angry” and said Mamdani was “off to a bad start.”
The president said Mamdani should be the one to reach out to the White House after his victory, not the other way around.
How NYC residents could face Trump’s wrath over Mamdani’s win
Thursday 6 November 2025 02:20 , Rachel DobkinEven as he pushed to focus his campaign on affordability in one of the world’s most expensive cities, New York City’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani still had to contend with Donald Trump.
Mamdani told supporters before election day that New Yorkers face “twin crises” of an “authoritarian” Trump regime on one hand and a mounting cost of living crisis on the other.
For months, the president has repeatedly questioned Mamdani’s citizenship, falsely branded him a communist, threatened to arrest and deport him, suggested his administration will “run” New York and let troops “clean up” the city, and threatened to pull billions of dollars in federal funding from a city with more than 8 million residents.
On Monday, Mamdani’s opponent Andrew Cuomo said Trump would “send in the National Guard to New York" if Mamdani wins.

Republican strategists say Democrats now have the momentum into 2026
Thursday 6 November 2025 02:40 , Rachel DobkinJohn Bowden writes...
For once, Democrats and Republicans seem to be in agreement: Tuesday’s election results were very, very bad for the GOP.
The question now is whether the White House and twin Republican majorities in Congress will change course or double down on an agenda of mass deportations, on-again-off-again tariff ploys and “owning the libs” at every opportunity.
As Donald Trump headed to a meeting with Republicans on Wednesday, a federal government shutdown was in its 36th day. A record for the longest defunding of federal agencies has now been shattered, with Washington still paralyzed and the president seemingly only marginally interested (before now) in the result.
But the president himself gave away the ballgame as he spoke to reporters: “I don’t think it [the results] was good for Republicans...the shutdown was a big factor, negative for Republicans.”

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, won the city’s mayoral election Tuesday against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.
With 93 percent of the votes in, Mamdani leads with 50.4 percent of voter support, followed by Cuomo with 41.6 percent and Sliwa with a mere 7.1 percent, according to The New York Times.
Speaking with his colleagues on The Five on Wednesday, Watters said single women were the “force” behind Mamdani’s electoral coalition.

Trump urges Republicans to talk about affordability
Thursday 6 November 2025 03:32 , Rachel DobkinPresident Donald Trump has urged Republicans to talk about affordability after Democrats swept elections across the country.
“They have this new word called affordability, and [Republicans] don't talk about it enough. The Democrats did, and the Democrats make it up because we took over a mess,” Trump told Fox News’ Bret Baier in a new interview.
Democrats won major races Tuesday while campaigning on lowering the cost of living. The incoming New York City mayor, Zohran Mamdani, promised free buses and a rent freeze, while Mikie Sherrill, who was elected the governor of New Jersey, vowed to declare a state of emergency on utility costs.
But Trump claimed when it came to affordability, “Democrats lie about it.”

The 36-year-old recalled the horrifying events during a sit down with "Jesse Watters Primetime," which aired Wednesday night. The emotional TV interview was her first since Kirk’s assassination at a college campus in Utah, on September 10.

Trump confronted by MAGA viewer ‘not happy’ over rising costs in Fox News interview: ‘Please do something’
Thursday 6 November 2025 05:30 , Rachel DobkinPresident Donald Trump responded to an unhappy MAGA supporter who begged him to “please do something” about rising living costs by making a rambling claim that they were, in fact, “way down.”
The president said prices were “already down” but the biggest problem was that other Republicans were not talking about how affordable things are.
Speaking during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier Wednesday, Trump addressed the decisive GOP election losses the night before and claimed his party should have better addressed the topic of affordability.
He was then read a statement by Baier from North Carolina retiree Regina Foley, who had voted for him three times previously, but was “not happy” with the current economic climate.

Trump frames fight as ‘communism vs common sense’ after Mamdani win
Thursday 6 November 2025 08:37 , Joe SommerladHere’s a little more from the president’s comments about New York City’s mayor-elect at yesterday’s business conference in Miami, which was held on the one-year anniversary of his own election win over Kamala Harris.
Oddly, Trump claimed the U.S. had lost “sovereignty” because of the young progressive’s victory in the Big Apple and told his audience in Florida that their city “will soon be the refuge for those fleeing communism in New York.”
He continued: “The decision facing all Americans could not be more clear: We have a choice between communism and common sense,” adding that Democrats offered only an “economic nightmare” whereas his policies would bring about an “economic miracle.” The jury is very much out on that one just now.
Reflecting on his first 10 months in office, the president claimed: “We rescued our economy, regained our liberty, and together we saved our country on that magnificent night 365 days ago.”
The U.S. Supreme Court is currently weighing up the legality of Trump’s aggressive tariff program and much will hinge on its verdict.
Back on Mamdani, the president warned he could be a harbinger of “worse” things to come: “If you want to see what congressional Democrats wish to do to America, just look at the result of yesterday’s election in New York where their party installed a communist as the mayor of the largest city in the nation.”

Trump asserts Thanksgiving is ‘25% lower’ than last year
Thursday 6 November 2025 14:47 , Ariana BaioTrump took to Truth Social Thursday morning to assert he was making Thanksgiving dinner less expensive than last year and claimed Democrats were “lying” about making things more affordable.
The message appeared to be an attempt to refute gains that Democrats made with voters Tuesday, when many local elections resulted in wins for the liberal party. Several of the candidates, including Virginia Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger and New Jersey Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill, campaigned on lowering costs.

Trump’s hush money case still lives on
Thursday 6 November 2025 15:00 , Alex WoodwardA federal appeals court has just ruled that the district court must hear Trump’s argument to move his criminal hush-money case to the federal district court, after he was tried, convicted and sentenced in state court.
Trump has been desperate to get this case in the hands of another set of judges to try to toss his conviction, even if that means going to the Supreme Court.
The appellate judges, however, didn’t make any decision on how the lower-court judge should decide what to do next.
“We simply direct the District Court to consider the motion anew in light of our opinion,” they wrote Thursday.
His team held arguments in front of the three-judge federal appellate panel this summer:
Amy Klobuchar talks about Trump’s cabinet reacting to Supreme Court arguments
Thursday 6 November 2025 15:20 , Ariana BaioDemocratic Senator Amy Klobuchar attended Supreme Court arguments in Trump’s tariff case Wednesday, and said it was “quite fun” to watch the faces of cabinet members react to justices asking skeptical questions of the government.
Klobuchar attended arguments alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
“I thought, first point, conservative justices, especially Justice Gorsuch, made it very clear that they believe it's Congress that has the power to assess these tariffs,” Klobuchar pointed out on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Conservative justices, who generally support Trump’s agenda, appeared unsure if Trump had the legal authority to impose sweeping tariffs on nearly every one of the U.S.’s trading partners.
“So, it was actually quite fun to be there, quite fun to watch the faces of the Cabinet officials while you listened to these conservative justices ask these probing questions. So, maybe I can't predict what the court's going to do, but when I look at this, this thing is illegal, and they're going to side with the lower courts, and they're going to throw these tariffs out.”

The liberal justice of the court forcefully dissented, saying the majority had “inflicted” injury on transgender or nonbinary people for a policy that would not harm anyone
“Such senseless sidestepping of the obvious equitable outcome has become an unfortunate pattern,” Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote for the liberal justices.
