Anutin begins key visit to Indonesia

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will begin an official visit to Indonesia on Monday, the first by a Thai PM to the country in 15 years, the government said.

Government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said Mr Anutin, who also serves as interior minister, will arrive in Jakarta for talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

On Tuesday, Mr Anutin will attend the Indonesia-Thailand Business Forum, jointly organised by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, before meeting Asean Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn at the Asean Secretariat.

He is also scheduled to outline Thailand's vision for Asean ahead of the country's chairmanship of the bloc in 2028, meet Indonesian business leaders and return to Thailand later that day.

Ms Rachada said the visit reflects the government's proactive foreign policy, aimed at deepening the Thailand-Indonesia strategic partnership and delivering practical cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, security, food, energy, education and business.

Indonesia, Asean's largest economy with a population of about 280 million, is an important market, investment destination and strategic partner for Thai businesses.

Closer ties are expected to create more opportunities for Thai goods and services, strengthen regional supply chains, encourage two-way investment and benefit large companies and small- and medium-sized enterprises.

The government also expects the visit to expand markets for Thai agricultural and food products, boost tourist arrivals and jobs, develop the workforce and increase exchanges of technology and expertise.
