If sources are anything to go by, Anushka Shetty is likely to land a pivotal role in upcoming multilingual film Mahanati, a biopic on legendary southern actor Savitri. The film features Keerthy Suresh in the titular role, playing Savitri, and her story will be narrated from the perspective of Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is rumoured to be playing a journalist. The latest update is Anushka Shetty, who plays Devasena in Baahubali franchise, has been approached to play a key role. She is believed to play yesteryear actor Jamuna, who was very close to Savitri throughout her career.
Prakash Raj is also being considered for a key role. Sources close to the film’s director Nag Ashwin have confirmed that talks have been initiated with these actors. However, they’re yet to be signed on officially and the process will happen soon. In all possibility, Prakash Raj might play actor Gemini Ganesan, who was married to Savitri.
According to the director, the project will be a magnum opus period film set in the golden era. With massive set pieces, the film will be unlike anything we’ve explored in Indian cinema,” he had said, confirming he’s likely to start shooting from June or July.
