LUCKNOW: In possibly the first public reaction from Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on the ongoing protest by wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, he appealed to the protesters to allow an unbiased investigation to be carried out in the matter.
Speaking to media persons in Lucknow on Friday, Thakur said: “I appeal to all the sportspersons who are protesting there to allow an unbiased investigation into the matter. All their demands so far are being met and the Court has also given its verdict. The unbiased investigation will reveal the truth and Delhi Police will take strict action if needed, within the ambit of law.”
Thakur was in Lucknow to flag off the torch relay for the Khelo India University Games which are scheduled to start in Lucknow on May 25.
Earlier, union minister of state for external affairs Meenakshi Lekhi had commented on the presence of various Opposition leaders at the protest site, stating that the presence of “discredited leaders at the dharna site has dented the credibility of the wrestlers”.
