Anuj Uppal wins Delhi state 6-Red snooker title

NEW DELHI: Seasoned cueist Anuj Uppal calmed down his frayed nerves and kept his emotions under check to prevail over his less-fancied opponent in a see-saw title battle to win the Delhi state 6-Red snooker title at the Megapool Academy in Dwarka here.

Uppal looked a touch anxious in the final but chugged along to secure the hard-fought 5-4 victory over Vishnu Chillar in a nervy summit clash. He won 34-33 23-45 32-11 34-23 09-32 34-36 14-37 72-0(72) 52-01(52).

En route his final dash, Uppal defeated Monu Choudhary in a high-quality display of green baize brilliance to walk away with a 5-2 verdict.

Chillar, on the other hand, dug deep into his vast resources of cue sport play to defeat former champion Sundeep Gulati 5-3. It wasn't an easy outing for Chillar against Gulati, who has several international titles under his belt, but the former kept his cool to emerge victorious.

Chillar might have lost the title bout but won the hearts of the cue sports fraternity with his all-round performance in the championships.

Both Uppal and Chillar have confirmed their berth for the senior Nationals to be held in the month of November in Indore later this year.
