Antonio Rudiger speaks out on Kai Havertz Chelsea transfer after key role in Timo Werner move

It looks as if Chelsea are closing in on their fifth signing of the summer.

The Blues had already confirmed the captures of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner earlier in the summer, before Frank Lampard and his backroom staff added three new faces last week.

Ben Chilwell was the first of them arrivals, signing from Leicester City in a £50 million deal, and he was joined at Stamford Bridge by defenders Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva. Both players arrived on a free transfer after the expiry of their contracts at their former clubs.

And Chelsea are now closing in on Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz after agreeing a £72 million plus add ons fee with the German club for the player.

Chelsea: 2020/21 season in preview

Havertz is currently on international duty with Germany, alongside possible future teammates Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger. And the latter has been again put on agent duties.

The defender spoke to Werner before the striker completed his move to Chelsea, with is international teammate only giving positive feedback about the club.

And it could now be down to Rudiger to do the same again with Havertz, with the defender saying that he will aim to do the same.

“I made my contribution to Timo, I hope that it will happen with Kai too,” Rudiger told journalists.

Havertz emerged as a top transfer target for Chelsea at the start of the summer, with weeks of negotiations with Leverkusen seemingly now coming to a close with a positive outcome for the Blues.
