Antonio Rudiger names the advantage he has over David Luiz in Chelsea's defence

Antonio Rudiger has explained why he has the advantage over David Luiz when it comes to Chelsea's defence.

The duo were Maurizio Sarri's number one partnership as centre-backs in the Premier League, before the German defender badly injured his knee in the draw at Manchester United towards the end of the campaign.

Andreas Christensen took over his role and is constantly pushing for a place in the first team, while Rudiger is hoping to be back from injury for the start of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

Rudiger and Luiz complemented each other well through most of the campaign, however the former explained the advantage both player has over each other.

"When I came new to Chelsea I was looking forward to playing alongside him [David Luiz]," he told the official Chelsea website.

"That didn’t happen that often in my first season here, so I was very happy for him he played more this season. He’s a very good person and also an extraordinary football player.

"I get on with him very well. He’s like a big brother and role model. He’s a very like positive guy always and very important in the dressing room. I am very happy to play alongside him for another two years.

"Certainly we are both good with the ball, I think he has a bit of an advantage cause that’s his game, but in terms of the more aggressive, there comes my place."
