Antonio Rudiger heard 'racist songs' about him from the crowd, says Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has explained how Antonio Rudiger complained of "racist songs" being sung towards him during Sunday's win over Tottenham.

Supporters were warned three times to stop racist abuse during unprecedented Premier League stadium announcements, with the first step of Uefa's three-step racism protocol in action.

During Sky Sports' coverage of the game, Rudiger was seen around the 63rd minute indicating he had faced racist abuse, imitating a monkey gesture, prompting the first tannoy announcement.

Standard Sport understands there was one reported incident rather than multiple incidents for the repeated messages.

Azpilicueta told Sky Sports: "It is made very clear to us all that if we have heard any racist incident to report it.

"[Rudiger] came to me and told me he was listening to racist songs towards him so I reported it to the referee.

"We are very concerned and aware of this behaviour. Altogether we need to make it stop.

"I hope everything gets clear and we eradicate it as soon as possible. It‘s an issue not just in football but in life."
