Antonio Rudiger gives positive injury update as Chelsea star eyes return

Frank Lampard is hoping to have Antonio Rudiger back in action after the international break and the Chelsea star has been stepping up his recovery from injury.

The 26-year-old has had a frustrating start to the 2019/20 campaign after missing the beginning of the campaign with the knee injury that he suffered at the end of last season.

The Germany international made his return during the 5-2 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month, however the centre-back suffered another set-back with a groin injury.

It was a bit of a freak accident, with Rudiger slipping when running off the pitch while making a clearance, and he had to come off at half-time at Molineux.

Rudiger has been one of the key members of the Chelsea squad missing for much of the campaign, but he might be back soon after posting an update on his injury.

The defender has been outside at Cobham and training back on the pitch during the international break as he steps up his recovery.

When Rudiger is back fit, the defender is set to return into the heart of the defence, with the Blues only keeping one clean sheet so far this season.

Fikayo Tomori has had a decent start to life in the first team, with Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen likely to take a spell on the bench.

Lampard might want to give Rudiger some minutes in the U23s again, instead of rushing him back into first team footbal.

The Blues's Development Squad take on Arsenal at Aldershot on October 18, which could be a chance for Rudiger to get some minutes.
