Antonio Rudiger has started talks over a new Chelsea contract but has stayed clear of confirming his future lies with the club.
The German international's current deal expires at the end of the season and there were reports of interest from West Ham United and Spurs in the January transfer window, following a difficult start to last season under Frank Lampard.
However, the 28-year-old has enjoyed a strong 2021 thus far under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel, helping the club to a fourth place finish and Champions League glory.
The Blues have been linked to a variety of centre-backs this summer including Joules Kounde of Sevilla, but Rudiger appears certain to have place in the Blues starting XI going into this term.
Speaking ahead of the UEFA Super Cup tie against Villarreal, he said: "As I said before, I wanted to concentrate on the Euros then after I come back, talks can start. That is what has happened for now. Talks have begun and we will see what time brings."
It would seem both sides hope for a positive resolution with Tuchel expressing how keen he was to see his charge extend his time at Stamford Bridge.
"Nothing is better than what he is doing now for a new contract," the Chelsea boss said at the end of last season.
"If he wants to have a new contract, he has our full support to stay at the club. He is speaking with his performances. He has been amazing since day one."
