Antonio Gibson unranked among ESPN’s top 10 running backs

ESPN continued its series listing the top 10 players at every position based on votes submitted by NFL executives, coaches, scouts and players, and this time, it was the running backs’ turn.

Unlike Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire, who had Washington running back Antonio Gibson ranked No. 10, ESPN’s list did not have Gibson inside the top 10.

Four other players received votes, according to ESPN, and Gibson was not one of those players. That means those around the NFL believe Washington’s second-year rusher is not one of the top 14 running backs in the league.

It’s understandable to rank Gibson outside the top 10. Some of the players ahead of him are more experienced and had more success in the NFL. But in ranking anyone, you are projecting as much as you are ranking on past success.

Gibson has a high ceiling, especially when you consider this will be his second full season as a running back. Gibson possesses the speed, patience and vision to be an elite NFL running back sooner rather than later.

If Gibson stays healthy in 2021, expect him to be one of the league’s top rushers when the season is over.
