Antonio Conte work permit latest ahead of Tottenham vs Vitesse in UEFA Conference League

Antonio Conte is expected to manage his first Tottenham Hotspur match against Vitesse on Thursday evening.

Conte was announced as the new Spurs head coach on Tuesday afternoon, just 24 hours after predeccsor Nuno Espirito Santo has been relieved of his duties.

Espirito Santo, who lasted just four months before being sacked, lost five of his 10 Premier League matches with the Lillywhites, leaving them sitting ninth in the current league standings ahead of their must-win clash against Everton this weekend.

Conte requires a work permit ahead of Spurs' UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Dutch side Vitesse, who defeated the north Londoners a fortnight ago.

football.london understands that Tottenham are still waiting for Conte's work permit to go through but there are not believed to be any issues.

As reported on Tuesday, Spurs are still confident that they will get the green light in sufficient time and expect him to be in the dugout for game against the Eredivisie outfit.

The Lillywhites are in desperate need of a win against Thomas Letsch's side considering they have won just one of their three fixtures in the group stage so far this term, leaving them third in Group G behind both tomorrow's opponents and French side Rennes - who currently are top of the pile.

Conte will be hoping he can steady the ship in Europe and then turn things around domestically ahead of Tottenham's trip to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs were unable to defeat the Toffees last season, losing 1-0 at home thanks to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin header whilst drawing 2-2 in Merseyside, a result that eventually cost previous manager Jose Mourinho his job.
