Antonio Conte warned off Tottenham trusted lieutenant as assistant boss pursuit takes surprise twist

Kilmarnock flop Angelo Alessio looks set to be denied a chance to reunite with Antonio Conte at Tottenham.

English Premier League and Serie A winner Conte was unveiled as the replacement to Nuno Espirito Santo on Tuesday.

Conte has penned an initial 18-month deal as he looks to recreate the trophy hauls earned at the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan.

With the Italian yet to name his backroom team at the Tottenham Hotspur, many had predicted former Rugby Park boss Alessio as a sure-fire appointment.

Despite his struggles in Ayrshire, he was number two to Conte at Chelsea as the Blues claimed the Premier League title.

He is currently managing in Indonesia with Persija, and that has put a massive stumbling block in the way of any potential switch.

Persija president Mohamad Prapanca has told Indonesian outlet Bola Sport that he expects Alessio to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

"We still have confidence that Alessio is a good coach for the Persija team and will remain with the team.

"We see his performance is getting better and better, his training program and strategy is quite good.

"In our eyes, Alessio still has the belief in his management target here and hopefully it can be achieved."

Kilmarnock fans won't remember Alessio fondly after he was relieved of his duties after just one win in eight games.
