Antonio Conte to take charge of first Tottenham game against Vitesse after work permit approved

Antonio Conte is set to take charge of his first Tottenham Hotspur game tonight following the approval of his work permit.

The Italian has replaced Nuno Espirito Santo after the latter was sacked on Monday morning.

Spurs announced that Conte would be their new manager on Tuesday after he signed an 18-month contract with the club.

However, as reported by football.london earlier this week, Conte wasn't able to take control of training in the week as he, along with his coaching staff, were waiting on the approval of a work permit which was always expected to go through by today.

Nevertheless, as first reported by the Evening Standard, his work visa has this morning been approved and he is free to take charge of tonight's home game against Vitesse Arnhem.

Conte observed the last two days of training, with Ryan Mason leading the sessions, but he has had a say on the team's structure and shape and will be picking the starting side for Spurs' Europa Conference League clash tonight.

Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil are both unavailable through injury but otherwise Conte has a full squad to select from.

As things stand, Spurs are struggling in the competition following a 1-0 loss to tonight's opponents a fortnight ago.

They've otherwise won one and drawn one in Group G, leaving them with four points heading into the fourth round of fixtures.

Rennes and Vitesse lead the way in first and second respectively, whilst Spurs are currently in third.

A win in Conte's first outing would see them climb above the Eredivisie outfit as they strive for qualification from the group.
