Antonio Conte's war of words with Jose Mourinho highlighted by Manchester United shirt

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's future as Manchester United manager under intense scrutiny, the odds are firmly stacked in favour of the Norwegian becoming the second managerial casualty of the Premier League season.

Antonio Conte has sounded himself as a potential suitor for the Reds in a move that will see him hold a red shirt aloft - something he turned his nose up at in the past.

The passionate Italian became embroiled in a war of words with then-United boss Jose Mourinho, sparked by the former's over-exuberant celebrations after Chelsea beat United 4-0.

Their feud took a bizarre twist when Italian prankster, Stefano Corti, found himself lingering around the Lowry Hotel in Salford, where Mourinho was housed for his time at Old Trafford.

They posed outside the hotel with a Manchester United shirt adorned with 'Antonio Conte 1' on the back and asked Mourinho to sign, to which he saw the funny side.

Fast forward two weeks and the jokers found themselves at the Chelsea press conference and put the United shirt on the desk in front of Conte saying: "This is a present for you off Jose Mourinho."

Conte turned away and looked bemused before the press officer instructed the prankster to take a seat.

Should United's slump continue, and the Old Trafford hierarchy sanction the sacking, Conte may well get a second chance to hold aloft that red kit.
