Antonio Conte’s prediction could be set to come true as Chelsea star sent simple instruction

Andreas Christensen has been told he needs to show ‘more personality’ if he is to become one of the world’s best defenders.

The Danish international has impressed for Chelsea this season having forged a place in Thomas Tuchel’s system. His performances have seen him become one of the first choice defenders at Stamford Bridge, whilst he was also recently rewarded for his efforts with his first-ever goal for the Blues in their 4-0 thumping of Malmo.

His international colleague Simon Kjaer has backed the 25-year-old to become one of the most accomplished defenders in world football, but only if he works on one element of his game.

Talking to Danish outfit BOLD, the AC Milan man said: “I think he has all the prerequisites to become the world’s best defensive player.

“He reads the game completely uniquely. He is fantastic on the ball, fast and athletic.

“He has to shout a little louder from time to time, but it has also gotten better. I think AC is a great defender. He has developed both on and off the field in the time he has been here. I still want more AC; I want more personality.

“It’s gotten better, but it’s one of those places where I want to keep pushing him a little bit.

“I want to demand more from him both on and off the field. It has got better, and in my world, he controls a little bit himself how far he wants to take it.”

Kjaer’s comments are not the first time that Christensen has been backed for greatness with Chelsea.

During his spell at Stamford Bridge, former Blues boss Antonio Conte predicted that he could even be bestowed with the captain’s armband in the future.

Talking in 2018, the now Tottenham head coach said: "Christensen is having a fantastic season and he is showing great maturity. His performance was wonderful.

"I trust Christensen. I think this player is the present and also for the future for Chelsea. He can also become the captain of this team."

Christensen has so far made 13 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea throughout the current campaign. However, his future remains up in the air with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
