Antonio Conte reveals when he will return to management as ex-Chelsea boss eyes fresh 'project'

Antonio Conte says he "doesn't know" what his next job in football will be as the first anniversary of his dismissal by Chelsea approaches.

The Italian said he is looking for a "project" that "convinces" him before committing his future to a new role.

The admission comes months after he turned down the chance to succeed Julen Lopetegui as Real Madrid boss, claiming he wasn't willing to walk into a club that was in chaos.

Conte left Chelsea in the summer of 2018, just 12 months after leading the club to the Premier League title with a then-record 30 wins out of 38.

The Blues won the FA Cup in the Italian's final month at the helm, but it wasn't enough to save his job after the team's spectacular collapse in the new year that saw them drift down the league and finish a dismal fifth.

“I still don’t know where I will go,” Conte said in an episode of Italian talk show ‘E poi c’e Cattelan’ that will be aired on Thursday evening.

“But certainly I’ll choose a team who has a project that convinces me."

Conte also touched on the subject of fellow former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, and mentioned the three-fingered gesture the Portuguese gave Chelsea fans when his team met Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in 2016.

The hosts won 4-0 that day, as Mourinho struggled to adapt to the expectations that came with the top job at Old Trafford.

"He won the treble and three championships with Chelsea , so he has the opportunity to make that gesture, but it takes respect, towards the public, but also towards him," Conte said.

"He has won so much and in that gesture there is all of Mourinho."

Mourinho was sacked as United boss in December 2018, almost three years to the day since he was relieved of his duties by Chelsea following a disastrous start to the team's Premier League title defence.
