Antonio Conte repeating the same Chelsea trick at Tottenham as he aims for European spot

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is repeating some of his well-known tricks to get new employers Tottenham back firing again in the Premier League and challenging for European spots.

It has been reported that the Italian has banned a long list of food and drink items that he previously forbade at Stamford Bridge, with things like pizza, ketchup, brown sauce and fizzy drinks all off the menu at the Spurs canteen.

Whether it had a meaningful effect on the Blues is hard to judge, though that season they went on to win the Premier League with 30 out of 38 victories, finishing seven points clear of Tottenham.

If Conte can come anywhere close to replicating that success at Spurs it'll be a job well done, though there is still a long way to go before the Lilywhites can call themselves title contenders.

When the Italian made the ban at Chelsea he was asked what kind of impact it would have on the squad, to which Conte said that nutrition was as an important part of the game as any.

"Every single manager must try to improve the players in different aspects, not just physical and tactical; to improve the performance and recovery after each game; to prepare and avoid injuries," he said.

“My experience as a former player is important and I try to transfer this to my players. Then the players will understand if this is good or not for him."

Tottenham currently sit ninth in the Premier League table with five wins, five losses and one draw - picked up in Conte's first league match against Everton - to their names so far.

Conte returns to Spurs action after the international break with a home match against Leeds before travelling to Slovenia to take on Mura away in the Europa Conference League.
