Antonio Conte publicly laughs off counter-attack suggestion after Tottenham beat Man City

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has publicly laughed off suggestions his side beat Manchester City on Saturday solely through counter-attacks.

Dejan Kulusevski scored before a dramatic Harry Kane double to seal a famous away win for Spurs after a miserable run of form leading up to their trip to the Etihad.

Given City’s tendency to dominate possession against most teams in Europe, some had suggested that Conte’s side merely hit them on the counter throughout the game, a fairly reductive description of what actually happened.

Kane’s winner, for example, came after a flowing team move deep into injury time after Riyad Mahrez had leveled the scores with a late penalty.

Throughout the game, Kane and Heung-min Son troubled City’s backline and the England captain in particular looked back to his best in terms of linking the play.

On Monday, Conte took to social media to laugh off any talk about counter-attacks.

Posting a video of Spurs’ third goal, the Italian wrote: “Counterattacks? Maybe not” followed by a number of laughing emojis.
