Antonio Conte makes honest admission ahead of Premier League return vs Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has said that he is "feeling good" after returning to training following emergency surgery, but admitted he "under evaluated" the recovery that he would need.

The Spurs boss did return for two games following gallbladder surgery last month, but was advised to take more time off by his doctors. He has been watching from afar for the last four games in all competitions, but has since returned to action ahead of the weekend’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

The Reds travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick off) as they look to build on the 2-2 draw with Everton at the City Ground on Sunday. While Forest have a full week to prepare for the game, Spurs are in midweek Champions League action as they take on AC Milan in the second leg of their round of 16 tie.

The game will be the first one back in the dugout for Conte since the reverse fixture last month. Tottenham lost the game at the San Siro 1-0, with Conte remaining in Italy following the clash.

Looking back on his recovery from surgery, Conte has given the latest on his condition ahead of the games against AC Milan and Forest.

“In myself, I was also well in the first game… For sure, I under evaluated the recovery after surgery,” he said via football.london. “For my sense of responsibility I wanted to come back early but I under evaluated the surgery and maybe I over evaluated my body and myself.

“But now I am well. I have recovered energy. I have to still recover weight but for the rest, I am ok. My feeling is good. I have a lot of energy.”

There has been some speculation over the manager’s future at Tottenham, with some suggestions that the health scare could make Conte think about his future differently, but he has brushed off that theory.

“This doesn’t change my mind,” he said. “I repeat – I have to stay with the players, I have to breath this atmosphere at the training ground, to prepare the game, to stay with them.”
