Antonio Conte issues Steven Bergwijn injury update and confirms Harry Kane stance vs Morecambe

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Tottenham attacker Steven Bergwijn is to return from injury very soon.

Last featuring for Spurs off the bench in the Boxing Day win over Crystal Palace, the Dutchman has missed the team's last three games due to a calf injury sustained in the 3-0 win over the Eagles.

Bergwijn's absence has limited Conte's options in attack but his return is set to come at a key time for the Lilywhites with Son Heung-min picking up a muscle injury in his leg during Wednesday's Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea.

Having spoken to Bergwijn on Friday, Conte outlined the importance of his return with his Spurs teammate now set to miss the upcoming games against Chelsea, Leicester City and Arsenal later this month.

"I spoke with Steven today and his feeling is good. He’s improving day by day, step by step," said the Italian.

"My expectation and the medical department's expectation is to come back very soon. We need to help him. Also we had a problem with Son during the game against Chelsea.

"It will be very important to recover Steven Bergwijn."

Now coming up against League One side Morecambe in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, Conte is set to shuffle his pack ahead of a key month for the team.

The cup encounter will give him the chance to rest Harry Kane and the head coach has indicated that he will do exactly that.

"Honestly, Harry played six games in 17 days. And I think if I have the possibility, I think it’s right to give him a bit of a rest," he revealed.

"Also because after this game, before the international team break, we have four games, very difficult games. Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester and then Chelsea again.

"It’s always difficult to think, to decide not to start with Harry. But at the same time, in some games if we can take the risk it’s right to take."
