Antonio Conte has already sent a warning to Tottenham's under performing stars that fans will love

In the wake of Tottenham's sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo, reports have emerged detailing that former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is being lined up as his replacement.

Spurs announced the news on Monday morning following a humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in north London on Saturday evening.

The atmosphere turned toxic, with boos ringing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at half-time, in the second half and at full-time.

It seemingly left the powers that be at the club feeling they had little other option other than to make the change, with Santo dismissed after just four months with the club sat in eighth place.

"I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision," Paratici wrote in his statement on the club's official website following the news.

"Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future."

It would be too simplistic to lay all the fan anger at Santo's door however. The board have received plenty of vocal criticism and so have the players.

Antonio Conte is the front-runner to takeover at the club and, if he were, those players currently not performing to the best of their abilities better watch out.

The Italian has already warned them that he has no time for players who do not work hard both on the training field and in games.

Speaking in an interview with Gunners legend Thierry Henry on Sky Sports during his time as Chelsea manager in 2017, Conte revealed that he would not stand for disrespect from his players.

"I always talk about education and respect. I give this, but I demand this," he said.

"If someone haven't the good attitude during the training session or the good behaviour, in different circumstances, then I would prefer to kill him.

"If a manager closes his eyes and does not want to see the bad situation, he will lose the changing room."
