Antonio Conte handed major injury boost ahead of North London Derby vs Arsenal

Sergio Reguilon took part in full training at Hotspur Way on Friday to hand Antonio Conte an injury boost ahead of Tottenham's North London Derby clash against Arsenal, football.london understands.

Last featuring for Spurs in their New Year's Day win away at Watford, Reguilon was named on the bench for the team's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash away at Chelsea but was not brought on by the head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Absent from the matchday squad for the past two games against Morecambe and Chelsea, Conte did explain after their FA Cup win over the League One side that the left-back's absence was due to the fact he was "a bit tired".

With Ryan Sessegnon starting against Morecambe last Sunday and Matt Doherty getting the nod at left wing-back on Wednesday evening against Thomas Tuchel's men, it appeared that it would be between the two to start on the left at home to Arsenal this weekend.

However, Conte has now been handed a big injury boost ahead of the derby showdown following the news that the ex-Real Madrid man did participate in full training with his Spurs teammates.

Cristian Romero has also been stepping up his involvement in training following his long lay-off with a hamstring injury picked up on international duty.

Speaking to Spurs TV about the Argentine defender, Conte said: “About Cristian Romero, he is almost ready and he is having parts of training sessions with us.

"I think that now we have to be calm and to take the best decision for the player, but he's very close to coming back to us and to play – this is good news."

Although Reguilon's full return to training is clearly good news for Spurs as they look to get back on track, Conte opened up in his pre-match press conference on the current scenario at the club with injuries and Covid limiting his options.

"As you know very well, we have many, many injuries and then there is always the Covid situation everyday, that you have to check," he explained.

"Sometimes you find a surprise, but we are preparing the game against Arsenal. I think in this moment, all the teams are suffering injury problems, Covid situation, and international competition, and Tottenham the same.

"You know very well, you have seen the bench, our bench during the game against Chelsea. I can understand that we are in a moment where we have to try to recover very soon the players that are injured."

Confirming that Eric Dier will miss out once again due to a muscular problem, Conte did reveal that Steven Bergwijn will be back on the bench even though he is not 100 per cent fit after his recent calf injury.
