Antonio Conte handed injury boost as one Tottenham player returns to squad for Roma friendly

Antonio Conte has been handed a boost with Ben Davies returning to the Tottenham squad for Saturday's pre-season friendly against Roma, football.london understands. Travelling with the squad to South Korea earlier in the month, the Wales international missed out on the first game against Team K League before coming off in the closing stages vs Sevilla with an ankle issue.

The injury subsequently kept him out of last Saturday's trip to Rangers, a game Spurs won 2-1 at Ibrox following Harry Kane's double. Davies wasn't the only player to miss out in Glasgow as Oliver Skipp also remained behind in London after sustaining a minor injury in training on the eve of the game, taking a stud to the top of his foot that required stitches.

football.london understands that the midfielder is not part of the travelling squad to Israel for the final friendly of the summer, but the return of Davies a week before the new season will come as a boost to Conte.

The defender taking his place in the Tottenham squad again comes a few days after he penned a new three-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His new deal now means he is under contract in N17 until the summer of 2025, which will take him to 11 years at the club if he manages to see out his full deal.

Speaking to SpursTV about after signing on the dotted line, he said: "I think after last season and the summer this club has had, there's no more exciting time than right now, to be at this club.

"I was enjoying my football and when the opportunity came from the club to extend my contract, I was more than happy to do so. I've had some really enjoyable times here. It really feels like home now and [hopefully] it continues."

Davies' Welsh team-mate Joe Rodon has not travelled to Israel though as he is closing in on a loan move to Rennes.

The quartet of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon remain at Hotspur Way as they look for moves away from the club.

Following the match against Jose Mourinho's Roma, Spurs start their Premier League campaign at home to Southampton on Saturday, August 6.
