Antonio Conte favourite for Tottenham job amid Manchester United links

Manchester United could be about to miss out on the chance to hire Antonio Conte with new reports once again linking him to Tottenham Hotspur.

And this morning, oddsmakers now have Conte as favourite to take over from Nuno Espirito Santo after he was sacked from Spurs.

Nuno was only appointed as manager in June, when he signed a two-year deal with the club, but his reign proved deeply unpopular with fans dissatisfied with sub-par results and the Portuguese's brand of football.

United won comfortably in north London on Saturday evening, with the 3-0 defeat ending up being the final straw.

And now, Spurs are said to be working hard on a deal for Conte, our colleagues at football.london are reporting.

In the aftermath of the 5-0 thrashing to the hands of Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faced intense scrutiny surrounding his position in charge at United.

As revealed by the MEN last week, Conte was open to taking over at United but the club board was split on him. Solskjaer maintained his place in power and masterminded the Reds' victory on Saturday evening.

With Nuno now leaving Spurs, the hunt is on for a new manager and former Chelsea boss Conte is the favourite at 2/1. The Italian was well backed over the weekend with his odds being cut from 15/2 late last week.
