Antonio Conte explains Ivan Perisic selection for Tottenham vs Wolves as Ryan Sessegnon on bench

Tottenham are taking on Wolves in the Premier League today and Antonio Conte has named a different side from the one that started the first two games of the season. Conte had named the same team for the games with Southampton and Chelsea, but that is not the case against Wolves.

The Italian has made two changes, although one of those was enforced, with Cristian Romero out with injury. The Argentine was replaced in the starting lineup by Colombian Davinson Sanchez. It is the other change that was an interesting one, however.

Ryan Sessegnon has been dropped to the bench, with the experienced Ivan Perisic coming in for his first Premier League start since joining on a free transfer from Inter Milan this summer. Sessegnon did usurp Sergio Reguilon as the first choice last season and looked to have Antonio Conte's backing this season too.

He did struggle against Chelsea and was brought off 12 minutes into the second half, with Richarlison making a big impact as his replacement. Perisic did come on later on too, delivering the corner for Harry Kane to head home the injury-time equaliser for Spurs.

And Conte has explained the decision to start with Perisic ahead of Sessegnon for the clash with Wolves on Saturday. Speaking to BT Sport's Des Kelly he said: "There is rotation, you know that Ivan has recovered from a serious injury in his calf and now he’s in a good condition.

"Sessegnon is playing really well, I see him with great maturity, I think Sess proved a lot from last season. To have Ivan Perisic in the same position can help him to develop more because we are talking about a player I trust totally. I’m sure Sess will have a good career in this role. With Perisic, he has more experience and a player I use to play in this type of game."
