Antonio Conte defends mammoth Tottenham salary as Italian gives blunt response after being quizzed on £20m pay packet

New Tottenham manager Antonio Conte believes it's only right that he's one of the best paid managers in the world as he works "at the top".

The Italian returned to the English Premier League to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, signing an 18-month deal at Spurs.

It's rumoured that he's being paid around £20m per season to try and turn the club around, putting him up there with the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

That comes on top of the pay-off Conte received when he left Inter in the summer, having guided the giants to the Serie A title.

That was put to him by Italian satirical show Le Iene, who put his net pay at around €17.5m (£15m) per season as they handed him a Salvador Dali mask as used in Money Heist.

And while the former Juventus and Chelsea boss may dispute the numbers being bandied about he insists it's only right he's well paid for his work.

Asked if that represented a bank hit a laughing Conte replied: "That's not the case. The real heist is whoever manages to get me!

"You do your job and it's only right that you do it well.

"I do my work at the top and it's right that they pay me for that."
