Antonio Callaway suspended 4 games for substance abuse violation

Antonio Callaway has not had a great summer since arriving at Cleveland Browns training camp. The second-year wideout was called out for being out of shape by his offensive coordinator Todd Monken and has consistently been passed over for first-team reps when the regular starters are idle.

Things just got worse for Callaway. He is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, according to a press release from the league office:

Antonio Callaway of the Cleveland Browns has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2019 regular season for violating the NFL’s policy and program on substances of abuse.

Callaway is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games. He will be eligible to return to the Browns’ active roster on Monday, Sept. 30, following the team’s Sept. 29 game at Baltimore.

It’s a huge setback for Callaway. He was already in the substance abuse program for testing positive for a diluted urine sample at the 2018 NFL combine. Callaway was also arrested on a marijuana citation in 2017, and he has had issues with traffic citations since arriving in Cleveland.
