The Steelers are getting close to a new contract for two-time All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown and could have a deal finalized this week during the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.
"I hope so," a team source told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Monday.
The Steelers have made re-signing Brown, who is in the final year of a six-year, $43 million contract, an immediate priority. They have been in discussion with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, for at least two weeks.
"I can say, unequivocally, that we want Antonio to retire as a Steeler, just like we want Le'Veon (Bell) to retire as a Steeler," general manager Kevin Colbert said on Feb. 16.
The Steelers used their franchise tag on Bell, who would have been an unrestricted free agent, Monday afternoon.
