Antonio Brown’s Instagram post shows a gross misunderstanding of ‘The Patriot Way’

Antonio Brown may soon be a New England Patriot, but he seems to need significant schooling on “The Patriot Way.”

One of the first things Brown did was take to Instagram. At first, he posted an image of himself in a Patriots jersey, which seemed relatively appropriate, even if Bill Belichick isn’t a big fan of social media. But then Brown put together another post.

“The Patriot Way,” Brown wrote in the caption on Instagram.

The image, however, was not what one might typically associate with the expression. The post showed a cartoon version of Brown, who sat on a huge pile of money, with his catch-phrase, “Business is Booming,” in neon lights in the background. The image seeming like a tremendous misunderstanding of the “Patriot Way.” It wasn’t example of the expression, “Do you job.” It seemed to oppose the Patriots’ team-first approach. It’s easy to image that it’s the kind of thing Belichick would hate.

Here’s a look.

The Patriot Way

Brown’s personality created problems with the Pittsburgh Steelers until they traded him. Then countless issues arose with the Oakland Raiders, so they released him on Saturday morning. That’s how he landed with the Patriots, where he’s surely going to be in a tenuous situation.

They don’t need him to excel — they’ll quickly make that clear to him. New England was prepared to enter the season with Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Demaryius Thomas, Phillip Dorsett, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski and N’Keal Harry (IR). They’ll probably be happy to proceed without Brown, if he proves problematic.
