Antonio Brown tells Raiders on Instagram: ‘Release me’

It’s difficult at this point to suggest anything Raiders wide receiver Antonio Brown says or does is surprising. But his Instagram post, dated 6:02 a.m. PT Saturday challenges that notion. Brown quotes himself in his own post, noting that he isn’t angry but wants “the freedom to prove them all wrong.” He follows that with a cryptic remark: “Release me @raiders.” It’s unclear whether Brown is asking for his release from the team, or merely asking for freedom from the bondage he feels he has.

Considering Brown was fined $215,000 for a squabble between him and Raiders general manager Mike Mayock, and the report that the Raiders are looking to void the remainder of $29 million guaranteed to Brown in his contract, one might believe Brown does, in fact, want out of Oakland.

Nothing has been said on whether Brown feels another team would sign him to any deal containing guaranteed money, but it appears we’re into the third act of this saga, just two days before the Raiders kick off the 2019 season with a Monday night home game against the Denver Broncos.
