Anton Ferdinand hopes John Terry supporting Black Lives Matter is ‘sincere’

Anton Ferdinand hopes John Terry’s support for the Black Lives Movement is “sincere”.

Almost 10 years ago, Terry was accused of racially abusing the former QPR defender during a west London derby against Chelsea.

Terry was cleared in court but the FA found the former England captain guilty of using insulting language referencing skin colour, which resulted in a four-game suspension and a £220,000 fine.

And after making the documentary ‘Anton Ferdinand: Football, Racism and Me’, Ferdinand has responded to Terry’s involvement in the BLM movement by taking a knee before kick-off and wearing t-shirts in support.

“He's supporting BLM the movement and that's great,” Ferdinand told Good Morning Britain.

“I hope that's sincere. Let's have a conversation on positive change.

“I want us to come together and how we can help the authorities.”

“I didn’t feel good at all,” Ferdinand added. “For me Mahlon Romeo plays for Millwall, one of their black players, my thoughts are for him.

“He came out afterwards and said ‘I felt hurt and disrespected’ in some kind of way.

“I don’t think any player is [taking a knee] for political reasons.

“It isn't political for footballers... it’s about equality and lives mattering as much as everyone else’s.”
