Antoine Walker doesn’t think Kyrie Irving is a ‘true Celtic’

Antoine Walker spent seven seasons with the Boston Celtics after being drafted No. 6 overall by the franchise in the 1996 NBA Draft.

During that time he was named to three All-Star teams and averaged over 20 points in five different seasons.

Walker and Paul Pierce teamed up to bring the Celtics back to relevance as they led the team to the Eastern Conference finals in 2001-02 season.

So Walker gets what it’s like to be a member of the Boston Celtics, a team that is a bit of a hot mess right now.

On Tuesday he was on FS1’s morning yelling show where he was asked about Kyrie Irving’s future with the team. He started off by saying he expects Kyrie to join the Knicks next year and then finished off his thought by saying:

“I just don’t think he’s a true Celtic. When you’re a Celtic, you kind of want to be there. I played there seven years of my career, I saw Paul Pierce there – I know how true Celtics are. I don’t think Kyrie is yet a true Celtic and believes he’s a Celtic.”

It’s not a surprising take at all, as Kyrie’s future with the team has seemingly always been uncertain, even though Danny Ainge said last week that the team and Kyrie are “engaged.”

Irving won’t be in the lineup tonight when the Celtics travel to Philly in a big game for both teams.

But will he be a Celtic next year?

We’ll have to wait and see.
