Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona: The £108m transfer that could boost Chelsea and Man United

Chelsea and Manchester United stand to benefit from Antoine Griezmann's transfer decision.

The France international confirmed on Tuesday that he is to leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

Linked with an exit from the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium last summer, only to change his mind, the 28-year-old has confirmed his final appearance for Los Rojiblancos will come against Levante at the weekend.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek reveals his brilliant plan to stop Eden Hazard joining Real Madrid

"It's been an incredible five years. Thank you for everything," he said in a video posted via his official Twitter account.

"I wanted to tell the fans who have always given me a lot of love that I have taken the decision to leave, to see other things, to have other challenges.

"The truth is it has been difficult to take this route but it is what I feel I need and I would like to thank all of you for the love you have shown me during these five years."

Barcelona are said to be the front-runners to land Griezmann in a deal worth an reported £108m fee, but in completing such a huge deal, one would expect there to be some changes to the current squad.

The 28-year-old wouldn't be joining the La Liga champions to play a bit-part role, so somebody should be fearful of their place in the starting XI should the Frenchman arrive at the Camp Nou.

And given Griezmann's fondness of the no.7 shirt, that immediately throws Philippe Coutinho's future in doubt.

Speculation regarding the Brazil international has been rife for many months now having not quite lived up to the standards expected following his £142m move from Liverpool in the 2018 January transfer window.

He's been linked with a move to Chelsea - as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard - as well as Manchester United who are looking to rebuild following a disastrous season under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, Coutinho has previously ruled out a return to England.

Chelsea player ratings of the season: Eden Hazard the star but Mateo Kovacic flops

"My head is exclusively in Barcelona," he told the Daily Mirror last month. "Returning to England now does not fit into my plans.

"This is my second season here. I have won titles but I am always an ambitious and demanding player. So, I want more and more.

"But I'm happy. I wanted to play in Spain and I'm at the best club in Spain."

With that said, Barcelona could very well take that decision out of his hands if they need to make room for Griezmann's arrival.

Although whether the Blues can lure Coutinho to Stamford Bridge remains to be seen as their two-transfer window ban comes into effect this summer but they will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for one final attempt to overturn the decision, this would most likely allow the club to get business done in the summer.
