Antoine Griezmann makes surprising transfer decision amid Man City links

Antoine Griezmann has made it clear that he will not be joining Manchester City this summer if he leaves FC Barcelona.

The French winger has been heavily linked with a move away from the club amid an ongoing financial crisis at the Nou Camp.

Griezmann has been listed as one of the potential candidates Barcelona could offload in order to re-sign Lionel Messi and register a plethora of new players, including former Manchester City stars Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.

The Catalan outfit are currently unable to register new players as they have used up all of next season's cap space, which was reduced by LaLiga this year.

Earlier reports linked Griezmann with a spectacular return to Atletico Madrid in a player swap deal with Saul Niguez going the other way.

However, those reports have died down with the two parties failing to agree a deal. In any case, Griezmann may stay at Barcelona after all.

Diario Sport has reported that the World Cup winner has made it clear he will refuse to leave Barcelona unless it is a return to Atletico Madrid, ruling out a sensational transfer to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola 's side are looking for a forward this summer after the departure of Sergio Aguero.

Griezmann could have fit the bill due to his pedigree and availability, but the club have not shown any tangible interest in the player.

City are instead understood to be working on deals to bring Harry Kane to the Etihad who has been on the club's radar after reports have emerged he is open to leaving Tottenham this summer.

For Griezmann a move to England seems unlikely this summer. He remains Barcelona's 'burden' for now with his wages thought to be a staggering €880,000 (£753m) per week and his contract not due to expire until 2024.
