Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong train with Barcelona for first time as pre-season gets underway

Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong joined up with their new teammates for the first time on Monday as Barcelona players returned for the first day of pre-season training.

Griezmann was officially unveiled as Barcelona player over the weekend, handed the number 17 shirt at after signing from Atletico Madrid on Friday.

The France international, along with fellow new recruits de Jong and goalkeeper Neto, signed from Valencia, participated in training on Monday morning with Barcelona’s Copa America stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Arthur and Arturo Vidal still absent.

The club will train for the rest of the week before flying out to Japan to begin their pre-season campaign with games against Chelsea and Vissel Kobe, who have three former Barca players on their books in David Villa, Sergi Samper and club legend Andres Iniesta.

Ernesto Valverde’s side then return to Catalonia for the Joan Gamper Trophy on 8 August.

Barca then head for the US for back-to-back games against Napoli in Miami and Michigan.
