Antoine Bethea reunites with James Bettcher, gets 2-year deal with Giants

The Arizona Cardinals have seen the first of their player cuts find a new team to play for. Safety Antoine Bethea, cut last week by Arizona, joins the New York Giants and former Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher with a two-year deal.

The news was broken by former NFL receiver Reggie Wayne, who was teammates with Bethea in Indianapolis. The two are friends.

Bethea will be 35 when the season begins and can still play. He led the Cardinals with 121 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and four pass breakups.

He was signed by Arizona to a three-year contract in 2017 when Bettcher was defensive coordinator. After Bruce Arians retired, Bettcher became the Giants’ DC and Bethea played under Steve Wilks and Al Holcomb.

It will be Bethea’s 14th season in the league.

Bethea’s signing with the Giants will not do anything for the Cardinals in terms of the formula for compensatory draft picks next year because he was released before his contract expired.
