'Antisocial' driver found to have extremely worn tyre

Police who were called out to reports of antisocial behaviour by a group of car drivers in Bridgend discovered that one of the vehicles had a tyre that was almost completely bald.

Officers from South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit stopped the vehicles and spoke to the drivers - but on inspection found that one of the cars had the extremely worn tyre. The officers have reported the driver for further possible action.

South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: "Report of vehicular anti social behaviour in Bridgend. Vehicles stopped and drivers spoken with. This vehicle was found to have an extremely worn tyre. Driver reported."

The police tweet showing a picture of the worn tyre prompted a swift response from fellow Twitter users. @JonWales123 said: "Should be seized if it’s down to the wire! How can the driver not even notice that? So dangerous!" And @kardos_dan joked: "He is just preparing for F1!."

According to the AA, hazards of driving with worn tyres include less grip on wet roads, longer stopping distances, a greater risk of aquaplaning, less traction on icy roads or snow and a greater chance of punctures, which can lead to a sudden blowout.
